Easter Historics Racing – Mallala

Mallala Motor Sport Park Aerodrome Road, Mallala, SA, Australia

Did you miss the Historic Touring Cars at the Clipsal 500 this year? Most of us sure did! The good news is you can come out and see them race at Mallala Motor Sport Park on Easter Saturday & Sunday. See them shred their tyres as they scream around the track with 'door handle to door handle' racing. Also, the monstrous Formula 5000 open wheeler racing cars with similar power to V8 Supercars (with a lot less weight) will be blasting around Mallala, along with the always-exciting Historic Sports Sedans. They may be old, but there is nothing sedate about them! There will also be Historic sports & racing car action, vehicle displays, parades and more – all in a fantastic old style picnic atmosphere. Wander through the pit paddock and view the racers up close, talk to the drivers andn grab some photos – all this for just $20.00/day (includes pit paddock entry) – under 16’s free. There are grand stands for seating but if you take your deck chair you may sit on the grassy mounds instead. There is a kiosk & food caravans at the event also but you may choose to take a picnic lunch. Come along and witness Australia's last true historic picnic-race meeting.

On Easter Monday, most of the field from the previous 2 days (from the National Historics at Mallala) will move to the Collingrove Hillclimb 9km South of Angaston to attack the tight, twisting & always challenging 750m track which climbs nearly 70m from start to finish on Mt McKenzie. Some newer cars in a Modern Regularity competition will join the Historic cars. Mount Alma Mile Hill Climb – SA

Unnamed Venue Mount Alma Road, Inman Valley, SA, Australia

2013 will be the fifth running of the Mount Alma Mile Hillclimb, held over 2 days each April at the popular closed road course at Inman Valley, 10km West of Victor Harbor. The 1.6km track is the longest currently being used in SA, and plays host to a field of 160 competitors. Spectator points at the start line, first corner and above the chicane provide great viewing; a shuttle bus ferries spectators the ¼ mile to the first corner, however the chicane spectator point can only be accessed by hiking up the slope from the start line. It certainly will be interesting this year to see how Kevin Weeks in his Lamborghini goes against Rob Black in his McLaren and if either can knock of last years winner Kevin Mackrell in Viagra? Mount Alma is a winding stretch of road in Hindmarsh Valley, South Australia, between Yankalilla and Victor Harbor. Get yourself in the right spot, and you can see each of the 160 competitors cover the entire 1.6km run, or move around the spectator areas to see the cars from all angles. Reaching some spectator points will require a walk up the hill, but the start line is a great spot to see the cars up close and then watch and listen as they are launched straight at the steep incline before the first corner A canteen will be running all weekend, with proceeds of the barbeque going to the Variety Club through the Variety Club Bash competitors.  Live timing will be displaying competitor times and rankings throughout both days, and entry to the event and parking are free. As all spectator areas are on private property, no dogs or alcohol are permitted at the event. Competition starts at 11:30am on Saturday 31st March, and at 9:00am on Sunday 1st April, running until 5pm both days. At 3pm on Sunday, the Top 12 Shootouts begin.  The 12 fastest 2WD competitors and the 12 fastest 4WD competitors over the weekend in will take one “make or break” run along the Mile.  Based only on this one run, the fastest 6 in each group are decided, and will run again, to decide the fastest 3.  The fastest 3 in each category will then run off to decide the winner.
